Dandelions, you know…those weeds in your yard. The ones that you put your (natural) weed killer on and they always seem to come back… Yea, those! You can use them for ALL SORTS of things! So sit back, relax, grab a glass of dandelion wine (yea, I said it), and enjoy those yellow bits of sunshine in your otherwise flawless yard because there is more than meets the eye.

So, if you are like me and you need to plant some dandelions (ignore internet glare from those who live in less tropical climates), you want to follow these tips and tricks to get you started:

TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Like most plants, dandelions prefer well-drained, fertile soil
  2. You can plant in full sun (preferred) or partial shade when the chance of frost has passed
  3. You can plant straight into that flower bed, about 1/4 inch. deep and 8 in. apart.
  4. Don’t worry too much about watering!
  5. Perennial in nature, replant every 2 years

USES

-Dandelion coffee increases appetite

-Dandelion tea to improve digestion

-Dandelion root to help clear the liver

-Dandelion leaves for kidney health

-Dandelion sap for bee stings, sunburn, & rashes

-You can EAT them! I know! Or, you can just turn them into wine 😉 Here’s a recipe for Dandelion Wine if you want to try it during the next summer solstice, you better start now! (wine is, after all, better with age)
